They’ve just released a brand new album Innocence & Instinct. I actually really like this CD. I first discovered this band when they were going on tour with Kutless, Disciple, and Run Kid Run. If I had to describe their sound, I would say that they sound like a heavy alternative rock band. That’s basically what they are.

Red’s album “The End of Silence” was one of my favorite albums I have ever listened to. My favorite songs off it are “Hide” “Already Over” “Break Me Down” and “Wasting Time.”

They also put on a good show. I went to two of their concerts and both times they put on a great show. The music was right on.

The band currently has four band members in it:

Michael Barnes
Jasen Rauch
Randy Armstrong
Anthony Armstrong

*Every member of this band has some pretty strong feelings on how people treat other people. In an interview they’ve said that one of the worst things someone can do is ignore one another and be hypocritical and jerks to one another. That’s how the feelings of being worthless start out, and they will always try their hardest to go out of their way to not make somebody not feel like that. They want everyone to be secure and happy with the life they live. These guys are ones to look up to.

Their new CD called Innocence and Instinct has hits like “Death of me”, “Forever”, and “Shadows” which is making their music is starting to get more and more popular.

Watch some of their videos here:

Death of Me

So why do they call themselves “Red”?
The answer to that would be the fact that the word “red” means so much more to them. It symbolizes something to them. All of their music has to do with their own experiences and “red” reminds them of emotion and passion. It symbolizes all the experiences and the emotions that they’ve felt. Also as Christians, it also symbolizes the word of Christ for them.

Falling Up – Review

April 25th, 2009

I could say so much about the band Falling Up. They’ve been one of my favorite bands since I saw them at Purple Door a few years ago. Well I’ll start out with some background information.

Falling Up got its name became two of the band members who wrote their first song. The members of the band are:

Jessy Ribordy… Vocals
Jeremy Miller… Bass
Josh Shroy… Drums

Here are the albums they’ve had:

Fangs, 2009

Discover The Trees Again: The Best Of Falling Up, 2008

Captiva, 2007

Exit Lights, 2006

Dawn Escapes, 2005

Crashings, 2004

Honestly, I can’t pick a favorite one. The melodies are catchy and the songs have great meaning to every one of them. Jessy actually says,”Our mission is to tell everyone who listens to our music and goes to our

shows about the love we have in Christ Jesus, to show people that Christians can be real and honest, It is to glorify God in every aspect of our lives and this band, and to show people through our lyrics, music, love, and lifestyles that there is more to life than what the world has offered us.”

“Crashings” include hits like “Symmetry” “Bittersweet” and more. “Exit Lights” has one of my favorite songs, “The Islander” on it. If I had to list all my favorite songs from this band, it would have every single song on it!

The album “Fangs” literally just came out. I heard it recently and I like this CD along with the others.

How do I describe their music? Well they have a lot of soft songs and some faster songs. It’s a mix of instruments including guitars, drums, and keyboards. The singer has a soothing voice. The choruses are catchy and you can put the songs on repeat and not get tired of them. That’s when you know you found a good band. When you listen to their songs over and over again without getting bored. The lyrics are very emotional and touching. I love the fact that when I listen to them I can really connect with the lyrics.

I’ve only seen them once in concert. I wish I could see them more times because they are my musical inspirations. I love to sing and write music and when I do, Falling Up is pretty much my number one musical influence.

The Devil Wears Prada – Review

April 25th, 2009

The Devil Wears Prada is a metal-core band that came out of Dayton, Ohio which consists of six members:

Vocals/Lyrics: Mike Hranica
Guitar: Chris Rubey
Guitar/Vocals: Jeremy DePoyster
Keys: James Baney
Drums: Daniel Williams
Bass: Andy Trick

The band came up with their name based on the book The Devil Wears Prada. It was the meaning of the book that made them want to base their name on it. It was the fact that God wasn’t going to look at you based on what posessions you have, it was going to be about love and grace. But later they read the book and found out that wasn’t the purpose for it. This is what the band says, “When I joined the band, the name was already picked out, and we already gave it our own meaning as anti-materialism, and the fact that possessions aren’t important as concepts of love and grace. That’s what the most important things are, and a lot of people get caught up in materials and possessions. That’s what we all thought of and that’s what we gave it. And then we ended up reading the book after, and realized that’s not what the book gave it at all. But that’s what we have behind it. “  What a lot of people don’t know is that also the band came out before the movie did.

To me: This band influences me a lot. It’s pretty much the attitude of this band that makes me look up to them. They are super nice and will just sit there and have a little conversation with you while your signing autographs with them. They each have a really close relationship with God and they aren’t ashamed to say that they are a Christian band.

“We’ve all accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior, and lead our lives based on that relationship with God. That being said, it is obviously going to have an impact on the music we make. We’re not about disrespecting anybody or shoving our beliefs down anyone’s throat, but we’re also not going to deny the one thing we believe as the ultimate truth. I know Mike’s lyrics are largely scripturally and spiritually based, and he can tell you more about that than I can. But I do know that I take comfort in the fact that in a scene so largely based around death, and morbidness, and negativity there are still bands that we play with all the time that look at things without those negative blinders on. We’re just not about tearing people down, or lifting ourselves up, because none of that stuff really matters. All that being said, we love you no matter who you are, no matter what your beliefs or dis-beliefs are. We just ask for the same respect back. We are not ashamed to say that we’re a Christian band. Every effort we make is for one reason, and one reason alone: our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. We support many bands with many different goals, but we feel that this is what God has called each of us to do. I don’t expect everyone to agree with that, and that’s fine, but I like to think of I Corinthians 10:31 ‘Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.’” Jeremy says.

Focusing on the music, they have some really great songs. “Hey John, what’s your name again?” is a really catchy song. It’s one of those songs where I can listen to over and over again and I won’t get bored of it. They also did a cover for “Still Fly” for the Punk Goes Crunk album. It’s really good.

The low growls and the clean singing when sung together really mixes well together. James Baney does a great job playing keyboard. In the beginging of “This song is called” you can hear a solo that he plays.

The Devil Wears Prada has recorded five albums so far:  Patterns of the Horizon, Dear Love: A beautiful Discord, Plagues, Plagues: Re-Issue, and With Roots Above and Branches Below which comes out on May 5, 2009.

I have loved all of their albums. This band has never failed to keep me interested in their songs.

Family Force 5 – Review

April 25th, 2009

Family Force 5 consists of five members: Soul Glow Activatur (Solomon Olds), Crouton (Jacob Olds), Phatty (Josh Olds)Chap Stique (Derek Mount), and Nadaddy (Nathan Currin). The stage manager who you can always find dancing on stage at their concerts and is pretty much their “everything man” is Xanadu. They’ve released a bunch of albums including diamond  edition CD’s. Right now they are currently on the AP tour with bands The Maine, Hit the Lights, A Rocket to the Moon, and 3OH!3. In the past year, they’ve gotten big! The band is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Genres would include Crunk, Alternative rock, and christian rock. The crunk – rock sound is what lingers people into the songs. There aren’t many bands that you can dance to and rock out to at the same time so this band is the perfect band for you if your looking for that.

I also think that they put on the best concerts. I’ve seen them three times in concert and every single time I see them, the shows get more and more interesting. They never get boring. Soul Glow Activatur is known for his large plastic metallic boxing gloves and his stunning shades. They encourage dancing and high energy. At Purple Door 2007, the band was joined on stage with crew members and people dancing wearing cow and bunny costumes. It’s pretty much a party for them. Instead of a mosh pit, you’ll find a dance pit. A crowded arena full of FF5 fans are screaming and going crazy when they come onto the stage and start performing one of their amazing songs.

I’ve met Soul Glow Activator and he’s a pretty chill guy. Even when your not supposed to take pictures at some places since they are in a rush to get to the next city, he’ll stop just to get into a picture. They are all actually all down to earth and just love what they do.

The hit album, “Dance or Die” which just recently got released is a favorite among many. The sound of this CD isn’t really different from the one that came out right before this one, but it has new melodies and tunes that are just as great. I personally can’t decide which album is better. Each one gets five stars for me! My favorite songs on this album are “Fever”, “Radiator”, “How in the World”, “Get Your Back off the wall”, and “Dance or Die”. I don’t think I can just pick one favorite. All the songs are equally great.
