During the Roman Empire’s secularist era those who acknowledged the deity of Christ were frequently fed to the lions to entertain – for lack of a better word – the “progressive” elites of the day. There’s little doubt that if many of today’s secular-“progressives” (more accurately: “moonbat liberals”) had their way, Caesar Obama would call out the lions once again.
Nothing makes the left lose its collective noodle like an open proclamation of Christian faith. You don’t see it when Muslims proselytize in government schools; the ACLU doesn’t sue when Wiccans share their witchy ways; militant “gay” activists don’t picket Buddhist temples with bullhorns while inhabitants grasp at Zen. No, there’s something about Christianity that just drives ‘em nuts. Always has. Always will.

And yet, after lengthy research into the historical record, I have become convinced that Jesus Christ himself was in all likelihood a vegetarian, and that vegetarianism was probably a central tenet of the early Christian community founded by his disciples. In fact, there is evidence that Christ’s opposition to animal sacrifice at the Jewish Temple may have been the triggering event that led to the Crucifixion.
Yes, I know. This sounds preposterous. But stay with me, and let me present the historical evidence before you make a final judgment.

(AP) – VATICAN CITY – The restoration of Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Vatican’s Pauline Chapel may have produced a special prize-a previously unknown self-portrait of the artist. Chief Vatican restorer Maurizio De Luca said Thursday that the face of a man on horseback in the artist’s “The Crucifixion of St. Peter” could well be the artist, though he told AP Television News that nobody will ever know “with absolute certainty that the face is Michelangelo’s.” The Vatican announced earlier…

… Good Friday for millions of Christians in the West, a day that commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus.
But the holiday, in conjunction with Easter on Sunday, presents a challenge to ministers, religious educators and parents: How should adults convey the message of death and suffering to children?
By making sure to tell the end of the story, answers Marjorie Connolly, religion teacher at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and School in Houston. “Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again — this is the mystery of our faith,” she says. “Death is not the end of the story.”

USA (MNN) — An article suggests the evangelical church in the United States is on the verge of collapse. Warren Smith, author of the new book Lovers Quarrel with the Evangelical Church, agrees, saying much of the evangelical church, especial many mega-churches, have strayed from God’s Word. He tells us about the pastor of the largest mega-church in the U.S. “He doesn’t like to focus on sin. He doesn’t like to focus on the bloody cross, on the crucifixion of Jesus, or on the need that we have as humans to have our sins atoned for. He likes to focus on the positive, on the upbeat.” Smith says while “today’s” churches have great music, multi-media and relevant speeches, they don’t promote discipleship, evangelism or church planting. In those settings, Smith says, “They’re less apt to share their faith, less apt, for example, to believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus. They’re less likely to believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God.” Pray that churches will return to the Scriptures and to the Gospel.

Franken finds Christ’s crucifixion to be a barrel of laughs. For example, in his 1999 book, “Why Not Me?” he wrote about his discovery — as a fictional former president — of “the complete skeleton of Jesus Christ still nailed to the cross” during an archeological dig. At the Franken Presidential Library gift shop, visitors can buy “small pieces of Jesus’ skeleton.” –
Katherine Kersten at the Star Tribune [MN, USA] comments “We would like to display Jesus’ skeleton at some future point,”
Franken went on. “It’s merely a matter of designing and building an
exhibition space … . Until then he’s very comfortable in a box down
in our basement near the geothermal power station.”
Very funny. Anybody want to try a joke like that about Mohammed?

Pop star Madonna, once accused by the Vatican of staging one of the most satanic shows in history, surprised fans by dedicating her hit “Like a Virgin” to the pope at a sold-out concert held in Rome. –
Reuters reports “I dedicate this song to the pope, because I’m a child of God. All
of you are also children of God,” the 50-year old “Queen of Pop” told
the 60,000 fans that flocked to the Italian stop of her “Sticky &
Sweet” world tour on Saturday.
Italian newspapers gushed over the singer’s electric performance and called the dedication a surprising provocation.
AP reports She was criticized by Vatican officials and leaders of other religions
for staging a mock crucifixion during her last Rome concert in 2006.
