Metalheads are campaigning to have their tribal sounds recognised as a religion. But surely there are more suitable types of music – like psychedelic trance Would you sacrifice your Sunday mornings to go to church with this lot? But nobody ever imagined it could be literally true, until now. Metal Hammer has – well, it’s sent out a press release, anyway – to recognise heavy metal as a religion in the 2011 UK census. “Hell, if the Jedi can do it,…

Heidi Montag's new album reveals her real Christian faith – er, not!

January 13th, 2010

Read the Full Article at blog.beliefnet.com

Back in July of 2008 it was rumored that Montag was interested in recording a Christian music album so when I saw that her new album had released, I was curious.

In the interest of full disclosure, my Heidi/Spencer knowledge is limited to a few pics of them coming out of church holding Bibles and their appearance in June of 2008 on the reality show “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!” where they talked about Jesus and their faith.

It was a sporadic faith, at best. For example, when Heidi wailed that someone had, and I quote, “vandelized my hair product!”, Spencer went on a violent rampage, prompting Heidi to explain that he was a new Christian and working out his anger issues.

(AP) – WATERLOO, Iowa – It’s hours before the first matinee, but the lobby of Crossroads Cinema is bustling. Bridge of Hope’s service Dec. 20 is scheduled to begin in 15 minutes, and several attendees are serving double duty-playing the role of both congregant and church leader. A bass player wearing a Christmas hat with antlers rushes in and out of theater No. 12, corralling musicians. A man disappears behind the snack counter to brew coffee. And a retiree with thick, pearl-colored locks wraps her arms around newcomers as they shake snow from their boots. About 50 people attending exude a sense of calm. The opportunity to take…

Family dynamic changes in Peru disrupt Christmas celebrations

December 24th, 2009

Read the Full Article at Mission Network News

Peru (MNN) — The celebration of
Christmas in Peru began late last night and goes on through today with much
fanfare.

In some areas, Christmas
celebrations with colorful fiestas take place, complete with costumes and music.  Nativity scenes are common, and in some areas
markets are held which draw many people
to the festivities.

Called "La Noche Buena" or the
good night, many families cook a turkey
or chicken and exchange gifts. Giannina Posner with Kids Alive International says in one mountainous region
where they're working, those family gatherings are difficult.

In many cases, the men in the
families have gone to the cities to find work. Often, they don't return.  Combined with the effect of poverty, the
celebration of the birth of Christ can be especially heartbreaking.

Kids Alive
has been working with
these at-risk families to help them support themselves. In this case,  Posner says, "For Christmas, they get
together, and they cook together and they sell their meals. So, there's a lot of things that we are
teaching them. There's so much to do yet. It's a very hard situation. We bring hope, but we also have to teach them how they can live right now in their
circumstance."

Aside from launching a program to
keep families together, they've also launched job skills training programs and
schools.

Posner says with each opportunity
comes an open door for the Gospel. "Becoming a sponsor is such a wonderful thing. You become part of
this child's life. You can also donate to the general funds so we can keep
running the children's schools and the women's programs."

Becoming a KidLife Sponsor connects a
sponsor with a child in need. A sponsor can
to write to the child, and to receive letters in return.

Your support will mean one
precious little boy or girl receives everything needed for physical survival,
plus the promise of a better future. And most importantly, he or she will
have an opportunity to receive eternal life and hope in Jesus Christ. Click
here for more details.

Bethlehem gets first Christmas rock concert

(AP) – BETHLEHEM, West Bank – O Come All Ye Faithful to Bethlehem’s first Christmas rock festival. A young musician who grew up near Jesus’ traditional birthplace feels the old-fashioned way of marking the holiday-hanging around Manger Square and listening to carols-is a little dull. So Emmanuel Fleckenstein has organized a three-day battle of the bands that he hopes will attract bigger crowds to Bethlehem. City elders, worried about putting off traditional pilgrims, are keeping the wailing electric guitars and pounding drums at a safe…
