DURHAM — As she prayed over a disabled baby, speaking in tongues, waving her hands, shouting to God, Pastor Sheryl Brady was doing what any Pentecostal preacher might do under the circumstances.

She was praying for a miracle.

But what made last month’s healing prayer for the baby unusual was the person in charge. Here was a woman leading a large church – an unusual sight in traditionally conservative Pentecostal churches. In addition, she is white, and her congregation is predominantly black.

God Standard Time

Bars may have an unusual ally in his struggle. Through Scripture, we discover God not only exists in a different realm, but there are hints He exists in a different time dimension as well.

In a curious passage, the Apostle Peter says: “But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.” 2 Peter 3:8 (NASV)

Peter suggests the principle of time governing the spiritual realm differs from ours. First he says a thousand years on earth is like a day in the spiritual realm leaving the impression heaven is not affected by passing time. Most have no problem envisioning that.

Scientists Postulate Extinct Hominid With 150 IQ

“Neuroscientists Gary Lynch and Richard Granger have an interesting article in Discover Magazine about the Boskops, an extinct hominid that had big eyes, child-like faces, and forebrains roughly 50% larger than modern man indicating they may have had an average intelligence of around 150, making them geniuses among Homo sapiens. The combination of a large cranium and immature face would look decidedly unusual to modern eyes, but not entirely unfamiliar. Such faces peer out from the covers of countless science fiction books and are often attached to ‘alien abductors’ in movies.

DUIN: ‘Vianney’ examines an obscure saint

December 20th, 2009

Read the Full Article at The Washington Times stories: Faith

How can an ascetic Catholic cleric who survived on one potato a day become the patron saint of the world’s priests? St. John Vianney (1786-1859), who started out as an obscure pastor in the hamlet of Ars in Southern France, was considered too stupid for a more prestigious parish. In ordinary times, he would have been rejected for the priesthood, but this was post-revolutionary France, when there was an acute clergy shortage for an unchurched and apathetic population. I saw the life story of this unusual man acted out last month at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops meeting in …

‘Witches, possessed’ flock to Kenya pastor Lawrence Omambia

November 12th, 2009

Lawrence Omambia Of course it isn’t all that unusual for a pastor to claim healing powers. Witness the blow-dried televangelists of America and elsewhere, who often advertise their dramatic healing powers in infomercials.
