Archbishop of Canterbury condemns John Terry adultery

February 6th, 2010

Read the Full Article at Ruth Gledhill - Times Online - WBLG

The Archbishop of Canterbury spoke yesterday at a conference at Church House. Afterwards a young journalist, Sergei Blair, an intern with Religious Intelligence, asked him about John Terry. The Archbishop said: 'Clearly, a lot of people think there isn't a problem there and that’s
a pity because adultery is adultery. It’s a shame that we lost that
sense that faithfulness matters. I’d like to see it back.'

Listen to the file here.

Lucy Bannerman went to Oxshott and spoke to Terry's vicar, Jeremy Cresswell. Read more about the Archbishop's comments at Religious Intelligence.

Christian Vision for Men,  a charity trying to make church attractive to men, is claiming the church has lost 49 per cent of all males under the
age of 30 in the last 20 years due to services becoming too feminine.

They have toured dioceses across Britain encouraging vicars to erect big screens above the pulpit
during this summer’s football World Cup in South Africa and to serve beer during games.

Robert Fisk’s World: The never-ending exodus of Christians from the Middle East

January 22nd, 2010

I have usually found that the closer a religious Christian, Jew or Muslim comes to the Middle East, the madder they become. The most avuncular Shropshire vicar, the kindest Jewish moderate, the most secular Muslim – dump them within a thousand miles of Jerusalem and they have the eyes of Lord Blair of Kut-al-Amara, that crazed, glazed, faith-based lunacy that must have inhabited the eyes of the Crusaders when they slaughtered their way across the Holy Land, dropping off near modern-day Homs in modern-day Syria to consume – literally – some of their Arab enemies. Orthodox priests fight each other over Christ’s tomb; Israeli settlers claim that the Koran is not “a valid document” and local…

Church of England Vicar: Ugandans “Might Actually Have a Point”

December 16th, 2009

Since I am gay, Anglican and British, I am more than disturbed to hear a priest in my own church and my own country concede that “the Ugandans, who are currently considering draconian legislation regarding homosexuality, might actually have a point.”

Writing on his blog today, the Reverend John Richardson points to the failure of a recent legal case to criticize Britain’s supposed lack of religious freedom and to suggest that Uganda has good reason to avoid following the West in “normalizing” homosexuality.
